Content production and strategy for an Arkansas based community media company, creating short form video content that improved reach and drove real customers to local businesses.

Overview

River Valley Town Square is an Arkansas based media and technology company on a mission to build stronger local communities through storytelling, studio production, and community focused tools. Their sub-brand LevelUp was dedicated to creating content that put local businesses in the spotlight and helped them connect with more customers. I came on board as a remote freelance collaborator for a few months to help bring that content to life.

What I Did

I helped produce interview style content featuring local community members and business owners, behind the scenes and business showcase videos covering developments in the River Valley area and turning them into short form video content published as YouTube Shorts and Instagram/Facebook Reels.

Beyond production, I was actively involved in shaping what got made. I suggested content ideas, gave feedback and direction to the professional editors on the team, and handled editing on some of the lighter video work myself. Part of my role sat somewhere between creative contributor and production support.

One of the more interesting challenges was learning how to reach an audience I had never been part of. I studied how locals in the River Valley communicated, the phrases they used, the references that landed, the tone that felt familiar rather than foreign. That research shaped how I framed content and wrote copy so that it felt like it was coming from within the community rather than from the outside looking in.

I also scheduled and optimised every post with the local timezone in mind, making sure content went out when the Arkansas audience was most active and most likely to engage. Working remotely from Nigeria meant I had to be deliberate about this.

The Results

The content contributed to improved reach and engagement across platforms and the LevelUp videos helped bring more customers through the doors of the local businesses featured. For a short freelance engagement, the impact was tangible.

What I Took Away

This project showed me that good content strategy is universal. Whether you are marketing an a big company in Lagos or spotlighting a small business in Arkansas, the fundamentals are the same. Find the story, tell it clearly, and put it where the right people will see it.
